Teide Tenerife Volcano |
 |
| The Teide is the highest mountain in all the Spanish territory with a height maximum of 3.718 metres up the sea level and 7.000 meters up the seabed. Apart of being the highest Spanish peak and any Atlantic island, the Teide is the third biggest volcano in the world. The Teide Mountain is a volcano that has not been in eruption from 1798, and which is situated in the Teide National Park.
The eruptions that took place 150.000 years ago marked the actual relief of the entire island. That period the Teide was much bigger than in the actuality, but the peak broke and fell down to the sea, creating the Cañadas the Tenerife. Thanks of new eruptions there is the Teide as we know in the present.
Cristobal Colón wrote in one of his diaries, when he was near Tenerife, that "there was fire in the highest mountain”. This corroborates that the Teide has so many eruptions in the close centuries, not milliard years ago.
In the year 1954 the Teide and all the circus which is around it is called the National Park of the Cañadas of Tenerife, although is know as National Park of the Teide. From here it started a campaign to convince the UNESCO of declaring it Humanity Patrimony, that it did en June 2007.

You can sleep in the Mountain shelter of Altavista, with capacity for fifty mountaineers, and a cable railway that comes from 2.350 meters to La Rambleta, at 3.555 meters, in just a few minutes. Walking to the peak is forbidden, although you can get a special permission in the offices of the National Park of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The Teide volcano creates a strange visual aspect in the island because the weather is soft during all the year and, in winter, you can enjoy with a snowed landscape at the top. The Teide also divides the island of Tenerife in two different parts not only in the weather, also in the flora and the fauna you can search.

In the past the Tenerife volcano, the Teide, was a place of adoration and worship. In the present, many tourists want to visit it because of its nobility and the past it has and, also, because it’s one of the unique volcanoes you can visit almost to the top. From the top of the Teide Tenerife volcano you can see all the island and some of the other islands that form the Canarian archipelago: Hierro, La Gomera or Gran Canaria.
