A municipality on the northeastern part of Tenerife, El Rosario is also a suburban area of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife region. The seat of the municipality is La Esperanza, located in the mountains to the west.
The population stands at 14,862 as of 2003 and its density is 377.02/km² while the area is at 39.42 km². El Rosario is linked with the old highway linking Abona and Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the superhighway.
Its economy comprises a mixture of business, tourism and some agriculture. Tourism is less common in its coastline and two large cities on Tenerife. The urban area dominates the coastline area, with farmlands in valley areas and grasslands in the mountains. There are some forests to the west.
