The carnivals are said to be one of the most well-known features of Tenerife, said to be the next best after Rio de Janeiro . All the islanders gather together at these annual festivities in a mass outburst of collective gaiety.

The main celebrations take place in Santa Cruz de Tenerife , in the areas near the port where people dance to the sound of salsa music played by the best groups in the island. It is also during this time that residents show off in their best finery for both neighbors and visitors to see.

During the 27 days of the carnivals, many important festivities are held such as the election of the Queen, competitions of street bands, processions, and above all, the impressive procession which blends "Carribean" and "European" into a garland of color and spectacle.

Those wishing to partake of this high spirited spectacle in February are urged to come in their best outfits in order to blend in with the crowds.

if you love the party so much, then why not head to a capital? By booking into one of the London hostels you can enjoy the party life of the celebrities and by day see some of the most famous attractions in the world – an exciting break for sure!”
