Candelaria is a municipality of the island Tenerife , the largest of the Canary Islands off the northern coast of Africa. The town occupies 48.52 square kilometers on the island's east coast. Candelaria is more completely known as La Virgen de Candelaria ( The Virgin of Candelaria ), and is a suburb of Santa Cruz de Tenerife , the capital of the island. The town's economy is based on some agriculture, commerce, and tourism: in the urban area along the coastline, resorts can be found, while farmlands can be found farther inland away from the coast.
